From the "Poststrasse" in direction "Paradeplatz" |
Rudolf L. Merz is a native of Zurich (Switzerland) where he attended
elementary and grammar school. Encouraged by his art teacher he envisaged a
career as graphic artist, however, his consesrvative father insisted on a
more traditional education and had him start an apprenticeship with an old
established Swiss freight forwarding company Ruedi served this firm in various capacities for 45 years until 1994 when he retired as CEO and Vice Chairman. During his commercial career he made the company to become the market leader in airfreight with 1000 employees in 50 offices around the world. Between extensive travel and long working days, Ruedi always found time for his model railroad and for painting - primarely trains and other means of transportation. Happily retired he devotes most of his time to painting and editing
articles for hobby magazines such as LOKI, MIBA etc. Link to: |

Rudolf Merz has been well known for years under the alias "Loisl" as an illustrator and painter of uncountable railway scenes and tramcars, as well as old and new locomotives. His detailed track plans and charts have been published in various model railway magazines. Retired since 1994, Rudolf L. Merz is now fully dedicated to his life long passion. There is a special reason, why the tram museum is in a position to present some of his work: Rudolf L. Merz is a devoted tram enthusiast and has for many years been an active member of the tram museum association. Further Loisl pictures: |
